7 Habits to End the Day:

#1. Leave before fatigue sets in.

Beware the habit of working late every day. Long hours yield diminishing returns. The longer you work, the less you get done.

#2. Practice closure.

A day without an ending is a nightmare. Don’t simply shut down—wrap up. Create a simple ritual to end the day. Don’t punch the power button on your computer. Turn it off intentionally.

#3. Reflect briefly.

  1. Who shined?
  2. How were you the leader you aspire to be?
  3. What would you do differently?
  4. What did you do that mattered most?
  5. What’s tomorrow’s first move?

Tip: Choose three of the above questions. Don’t answer them all.

#4. Prepare your desk for the morning.

Straighten the keyboard and mouse. Clear the clutter. Toss garbage. Arrange your chair. Create a clear launch pad. Anxiety is easy—don’t prepare.

#5. Set boundaries.

If you must check email, pick a time—say 7:00 p.m.—and let your team know. Don’t be always-on.

#6. Keep a work notebook at home.

If work thoughts pop up, write them down. Don’t burden your brain with things you intend to forget. You reinforce a thought when you tell your brain not to think it. Focus on something else.

#7. Get physical.

Mow the lawn. Walk. Engage in a hobby. Play with the kids. Physical activity clears mental clutter.

Choose closure over chaos. Small actions—done with intention—build the momentum you need to rise with clarity, purpose, and strength. End well to lead well.
